Gadag: An undertrial student dies by suicide on the night of Thursday April 7 as he feared that he would not get bail.

The deceased has been identified as Raju Lamani, a PUC student and native of Adavi Somapura Thanda in  Gadag Taluk. Raju Lamani had an affair with the girl studying in first year PUC in the same college. But the minor girl’s parents opposed the affair. Raju eloped with girl to Goa two months back, and girl’s family members filed POCSO case against Raju. Also allegedly even assaulted Raju’s family members.

Police booked Raju under POCSO, and sent him to jail in Gadag. Raju who was in jail since last 20 days was much depressed as he could not bail to write PUC examinations. But the Gadag JMFC court granted him conditional bail on Thursday to write examination. The advocate called Gadag jail to inform officials about bail issue. But none received phone call in the jail. On Thursday night Raju died suicide by hanging himself from window.

Deceased’s mother Lakkavva said that girl’s family members are responsible for the death of her son. She said girl’s relatives met Raju in jail on Wednesday April 6, and after that he took this extreme step.

Police has registered a case and are investigating.
