Bengaluru: Non-availability of brides for certain professionals like priests, cooks and farmers is an age-old problem. Many of those who depend on those professions remain unmarried even after they cross 40 years of age. One such victim of ‘bride rejection’ is a 63-years-old priest, who has now approached the gram panchayat to seek a bride for marriage.

This incident has been reported from the Naregalla village near the Haveri district’s Akki Alur town. Dyamanna Kammara, a priest of the Naregalla village deity, approached the grama panchayat seeking a bride.

“I searched for a suitable bride in my community for decades. But I didn’t find anyone. I am growing old now and I need a companion to lead a peaceful, healthy life. Please get me a bride and arrange my marriage,” Kammara, who hails from the very small Vishwakarnama community, requested the gram panchayat.

He justified his decision to approach the gram panchayat by saying that he is not in a position to continue the search for a bride on his own.

Taken aback by the strange appeal, the gram panchayat authorities have assured that they will look into the rule books. “If there is a provision to search for a bride and arrange a marriage, we will help you,” Umesh Hukkeri, Panchayat Development Officer, assured Kammara.
