Belagavi: The local elected representatives announced to resign en masse over the issue of cabinet post to Yamakanmardi MLA and AICC Secretary Satish Jarkiholi. Around 50 elected representatives including APMC members, city corporation councillors, taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat members supported the move.

Speaking to reporters here on June 8, zilla panchayat member Sidgouda Sunagar said that it was impossible for them to continue in the Congress party which had no respect for AICC Secretary Satish Jarkiholi. “There for we-3 APMC members including APMC chairman, 2 city corporation councillors, 28 taluk panchayat members, 15 zilla panchayat members from Belagavi district – are announcing a mass resignation”, he added.

Sunagar also hinted at a conspiracy to sideline Satish Jarkiholi. He claimed that Satish’s name was dropped from the list of cabinet post at the last moment. “Satish is a key person for Congress to win more number of seats in Karnataka. It is condemnable that the high command dropped his name at the last moment due to someone’s wish”, he added.

The representatives also accused that Satish missed the minister post due to the plans hatched by G Parameshwar and Venugopal. “High command has nobody who faced direct elections”, Sunagar added.

The representatives also warned a massive protest if Satish was not given a ministry. Zilla Panchayat Vice President Arun Katambale, corporation councillor Jayashri Malagi, taluk panchayat member Yallappa Kole, Rekha Korishetti among others were present.

It may be recalled that there is a rising angst among the Congress party workers about the high command’s decision. The furious followers of MLA Satish Jarkiholi went on a rampage in the city and ransacked the Congress office on Club Road on June 7. An NWKRTC bus was damaged as some of them pelted stones at it. The police had to use mild force for bringing the situation under control.
