Belagavi: Law enforcement officials have apprehended a woman involved in orchestrating a prostitution operation from a leased flat in Hanuman Nagar locality of Hindwadi, Belagavi.
The arrested woman, identified as Farida Altaf Hakim, had reportedly rented a unit in Vidyasagar Sankul apartments. The flat, owned by one Rahul Sulebhavi, was allegedly being used as a front for the illegal activity. Farida had stationed another woman in the premises, allegedly forcing or facilitating her participation in the unlawful trade.
Acting on credible information, the Tilakwadi police raided the apartment. They not only detained Farida but also successfully rescued the woman being exploited in the process.
Authorities have registered a case against Farida under relevant sections and have begun deeper inquiries to uncover if more individuals or networks are connected to the operation.
Police sources mention that further questioning is underway to determine whether this racket has wider links or if other such flats in the city are being misused similarly. Investigators are also examining the role of property owners in such cases and whether landlords are verifying tenant backgrounds diligently.
Officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities occurring in their neighborhoods to help curb such illicit practices.
This crackdown serves as another reminder of ongoing efforts by the police to dismantle illegal networks operating under the radar in residential areas.
