Belagavi: By all indications, former minister and BJP strongman Umesh Katti’s brother, Ramesh Katti is expected to contest as an independent candidate from the Chikkodi Lok Sabha constituency. The former MP was denied a ticket by the BJP on Friday, March 29.
Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, Umesh Katti informed that he has requested the BJP leaders to change their decision of giving the ticket to Annasaheb Jolle. “We will give the BJP leaders time till April 4. After that we will take a decision,” he said.
According to sources, Katti’s supporters want Ramesh to contest as an independent candidate. “We have several options in front of us,” Umesh said.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate, incumbent MP Prakash Hukkeri has launched a campaign in the constituency. But Congress rebel leaders, including MLA Ramesh Jarakiholi, are absent from the campaign.
