Terror suspects remanded to police custody

Belagavi: Ejaz Ahmed Bihari and Mohommed Hussainali Qureshi, arrested from Kalaburagi for suspicion of having links with terror groups were produced before the local court here on Monday, which remanded them to police custody.

Three journalists detained on sedition charges-1

Bihari was brought to the city on Sunday and was produced before the First Judicial Magistrate Court-III, which remanded him in police custody for seven days.
Earlier in the day, the police produced Qureshi in the same court which remanded the latter to 14 days in judicial custody. Both the accused have been booked on charges of sedition under Section 24(A) of the Indian Penal Code. Ejaz runs the Urdu newspaper Salamati in Kalaburagi.

Mohammed Hussainali Qureshi, a resident of Kalaburagi, was caught red-handed while taking videos and photographs venturing into prohibited zones of the Sambra airport in Belagavi. The city police subjected Qureshi to intensive interrogation and based on information given by him, picked up three persons including Bihari in Kalaburagi.

Belagavi: Izan Sait, who was arrested on charges of helping terror suspect Mohammad Qureshi was produced before the JMFC 3rd court in Belagavi on Monday and has been sent to seven days judicial custody.

Izan, the editor of a Urdu daily from Kalaburgi, was detained for getting photos of important places in Karnataka and he is said to have taken help from Qureshi, the main suspect.

Last Tuesday Kalaburgi police had detained 21-year-old Mohammed Hussein Ali Qureshi of Kalaburagi who was caught by the airport authorities at Sambra while videographing the vital installations and was booked on charges of sedition.

Qureshi during the questioning revealed that he was hired by Izan to take photos of airports, railway stations, bus terminus and other important installations in the state and sent them to Sait.

According to sources, Qureshi, suspected to have terror links, was found videographing defence and civilian installations, including the airport at Sambra, in Belagavi district. The security personnel caught him at the airport and handed over to the city police. He was produced before a local court and handed over to police custody for further investigations.

The police officials have taken the arrest of Qureshi seriously only after they came to know that he was present on Church Street in Bengaluru on the day of the blast last year.
