A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Sambargi village near Athani, where two young siblings lost their lives after a bullock cart overturned in a rain-fed stream. Another child, their brother, was seriously injured in the mishap.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak Sanjay Kamble (9) and his younger brother Ganesh Sanjay Kamble (7), both residents of Naganur PA village. Their brother, Vedanth Sanjay Kamble, who was also on the cart, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Athani.
The tragedy occurred as the children were traveling with their father, Sanjay Kamble, from Sambargi to Naganur PA. They were using a bullock cart to cross a stream swollen due to recent rains. As the cart moved over a section where sand had recently been excavated, the bullock is believed to have lost its footing in the concealed pit.
This caused the cart to tip over, plunging the family into the gushing stream. Sanjay Kamble managed to pull Vedanth out of the water, though the child suffered serious harm. Unfortunately, Deepak and Ganesh were swept away and drowned. The bullock, which got stuck in the pit, also reportedly perished.
Local residents assisted in retrieving the children’s bodies from the water, bringing an end to a sorrowful search.
The community is mourning the loss of the young lives, and questions have been raised about the safety of rural transport during monsoon conditions.
