Vijayapura: The District Congress Committee took out a massive protest rally against the Central Government’s three farm laws and hiked fuel prices, on Tuesday.

The protest was led by Congress leader, Abdul Hamid Mushrif where hundreds of party workers participated by carrying placards and motorcycles on a pushcart to symbolize the hike in fuel prices.

The rally that started from the Ambedkar circle, ended at the DC office where the memorandum was submitted to the district administration.

Addressing the protestors, Mushrif said that three farm laws which the Centre has brought are aimed at only helping the BJP’s corporate friends who pay huge party funds during the polls.

Stating that the farm laws are like quid-pro-quo for the Corporate companies, he said that the BJP government has come to power only to help elite people and destroy poor people.

Claiming that over 150 farmers have already lost their lives while protesting in Delhi against the farm laws, he alleged that instead of heeding to their issues, the BJP is trying to defame and spread canards about the peaceful protest.

“ The farmers, who feed the nation, rich or poor. Spending the day-night in fields, they have been relentlessly working in the fields to provide food to the nation. The BJP is calling them anti-nationals, terrorists, and people funded by destructive forces. This is the respect the BJP has for the farmers of the country”, he retorted.

Alleging that the BJP government has sold all the profit-making Public Sector Units of the country, he said that from BSNL to Railways, the BJP has decided to sell off the nation to private entities.

Referring to the BJP’s promise during the 2014 election where it had promised to bring down the price of petrol to Rs. 50 a liter, he said that today, when the BJP government is in power, the price of petrol is touching Rs. 100 mark.

In his address, KPCC general secretary, Shakir Sanadi said that not just the farmers, but every opposition party including the Congress have been opposing the farm laws inside and outside the parliament.

Stating that the agriculture sector plays a vital role in lifting the GDP of the country, he said that the BJP government is hell-bent to destroy this crucial sector itself.

The party which came to power by giving rosy promises to farmers that it will double their income if they come to power is now snatching away the present earning leave alone doubling the income.

He demanded the President of India to intervene in the matter and to come to the rescue of the common people.
