Vijayapura: After the sudden rise in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, the border areas are on high alert in the district.
With cases spiking rapidly in the border districts of Maharashtra, the district health authorities have kept an eye on the rural areas mainly on those villages, where people in large numbers commute every day to the neighboring state for business and other purposes.
The health authorities are conducting over 1,000 RT PCR tests across the district, where at least 60 percent of them are being done in the border areas.
According to the officials of District Health and Family Welfare (DHFW), “The government had given the target to test 1,250 samples a day. After the cases found reporting high in Maharashtra and Kerala – the government has set-up a target to test 2,000 samples a day.”
Apart from this, the health authorities have kept a tight vigilance on the interstate check posts as the government has made it mandatory for travellers to carry and present the Covid-19 test report, which should not be older than 72 hours, to get an entry to Karnataka.
Rahul Shinde, Assistant Commissioner of Indi Revenue Sub-division, pointed that, “We are verifying the Covid test report of maximum passengers and those who fail to carry the report, we will collect their samples and allow them to travel on imposing certain conditions including mandatory home quarantine till the Covid-19 test report is announced. We will also keep track via various applications.”
“In the border areas, we are conducting random tests. The health professionals have been assigned the work, who are working day and night to ensure all the guidelines are followed and maximum tests are carried out each day,” detailed AC Shinde.
Though the district shares a border with a couple of districts of Maharashtra, the Covid cases have not witnessed a spike. The cases continue to report in a single digit and no death has been recorded for nearly two months.
According to the district DHFW, “As many as 14,642 people have tested positive. Among them 14,378 have been discharged, 58 are active and 206 people have succumbed to the virus. A total of 3,34,490 samples have been collected, where only 818 samples results are awaiting.”
DC P Sunil Kumar said that, “Every day we are testing around 80 percent of the given target for Covid test for the district. We have increased the testing by 700 samples per day from Sunday. Apart from that, at the interstate check post we are screening and testing passengers that come from Maharashtra in trains. The border areas are on alert and have arranged all the health infrastructure if the case sees a spike,” stated DC Sunil Kumar.
