Vijayapura: With only a couple of days left for the polling for the Sindagi by-election, the District Administration has made elaborate arrangements for the free and fair polling.

Informing about the preparations, Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar said that since less than 72 hours left for the elections, barring door-to-door campaigns, all other forms of the campaign such as public gathering have been banned. The political leaders who have come from outside, have been directed to leave the constituency, else cases of violation of order would be filed against them they have been instructed, he said.

Regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct, he said that a total 24 FIRs have been registered. Ad many as 78 cases of carrying illicit liquor have also been filed, he said.

Mentioning about the machinery being used and deployment of officials, Sunil Kumar said that a total of 1257 EVM would be used for 297 polling booths being set up in the constituency. Around 1300 polling staff have been deployed for the polling duty with 10% officials being reserved for emergencies, he said.

He informed that this time, except for two Sakhi polling booths, no other polling booths had female staff.

“We have deployed only male officials for polling duty. Since we have set two Sakhi booths (meant for women), only at these booths female officials will be working,” he said.

He claimed that before deployment, it was made sure that all the officials have taken both the doses of Covid vaccine.

“Keeping the elections in mind, we had intensified vaccination drives in the Sindagi constituency. Thus, we have vaccinated 93% of the population who are above 18 years of age. The objective is to minimise the number of Covid infected persons in the constituency as the possibility of rising cases would be high during election since people gather during campaign,” he said.

The polling will be held on October 30 and the counting will be held at Wadeyar House of Sainik School, Vijayapura on November 2.
