Vijayapura: Police personnel are among the frontline workers who are dealing with the Covid pandemic day in and day out due to the nature of their duty. They are trying to ensure that people follow Covid protocols in order to prevent the spreading of the pandemic. During the process, many police personnel have been infected with Covid in the District in all the three waves of the pandemic.
According to the Police Department officials, in the ongoing third wave of Covid pandemic, in all 42 police personnel have been tested positive, and thankfully none of them have developed any serious health complications.
“Unlike in the first and the second wave where we lost a few of our men, fortunately, we did not lose any staff in the third wave. It is possible because almost all our staff have taken at least one dose of the Covid vaccine,” said Ram Arasiddi, Additional Superintendent of Police.
Giving the list of the police personnel who got affected due to Covid in all the three waves, he said that in the first wave, a total of 174 police personnel got infected, in second wave around 139 staff suffered due to Covid but in third wave, so far only 42 staff suffered from the virus. While one police personnel died of Covid in the first wave, two personnel lost their lives in the second wave.” Totally, as of now, we have a record of a total 355 police personnel affected by Covid, and three persons losing life and some seven under treatment for Covid,” Arasiddi added.
With regard to vaccination, he informed that 1874 police staff have taken the first dose of vaccine, some 1864 have taken the second dose also, while 1022 have taken the booster shot which is given to frontline workers. He said that the department has supplied masks and sanitisers to the staff and they have been appealed to follow Covid protocols for their safety.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday February 1, the District recorded a total of 82 new Covid positive cases. With 159 persons getting discharged, no death was also reported from the district due to Covid.
