Vijayapura: The Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University (KSAWU) is all set to implement National Education Policy (NEP) from the present academic year for all the colleges affiliated to their university.
Informing this at a press conference on Tuesday August 17, Prof. B. K. Tulasimala, Vice Chancellor of the University said that all preparations are being made to introduce syllabus as per NEP from October this year.
She said that as per the new policy, the syllabus is being prepared by the experts for various courses and expressed confidence that the syllabus for at least the first two semesters will be ready to implement the policy.
“While the State committee which also has lecturers of Women’s University are preparing the common syllabus, the University committee will be preparing additional subjects which will be incorporated in the main syllabus. The University has got the liberty to add some syllabus based on the regional and local needs for the students”, he said.
She stated that the University has also been holding meetings with the Principals and Deans of various colleges coming under the University to educate them about the new syllabus and new education policy.
Replying to some of the critics of NEP, Prof. Tulasimala admitted that often many people take time to adjust with new changes as they do not wish to come out of their comfort zones to adopt new policies.
“But we are making efforts to educate them and holding meetings with the parents and students to make them aware of the features of the policy”, she said.
To a question, she admitted that education should ensure employment and employability. “My primary objective is to bridge this gap prevailing between education and employment. In this regard, we are trying to ensure that that education is skill based which meets the market requirement. We will be holding several programmes to increase employability and entrepreneurship among the students”, she said.
She also admitted that the University needs expert teaching staff to provide quality education as per NEP. Though she said that the University has 33 posts vacant, however, the university has been managing with guest lecturers.
To another question, she said that the University is contemplating to start Under Graduate College in the University itself.
