Vijayapura: Extending support to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which had called for a nation-wide Rail Roko program to oppose farm laws, members of various farmers unions participated in the Rail Roko event at the Railway Station of the city on Thursday.

As different farmers’ unions of the country participated in the protest, the members of district units also took part in the program by raising slogans and carrying placards.

Though hundreds of protestors had gathered outside the railway station to lay siege to the train, however when they tried to enter the station to prevent the railway from moving, the police stopped the protestors and pushed in the police vans.

The protestors were later released.

Earlier, addressing the protestors, leader, Bhimshi Kaladagi said that the farmers across the country are forced to take out protest marches after the Modi government brought three farm laws that are completely against the farmers’ interest.

Describing them as black laws that are aimed at destroying the APMC system and handing over the entire agriculture market to the private sector, he said that the farmers are holding protests against the laws and demanding the government to repeal them.

In his address, B. Bhagwan Reddy, the communist leader said that the farmers are holding protests in Delhi for nearly three months, yet the Modi government has shown no interest in repealing the laws.

Accusing the government of becoming a dictator and arrogant, he said that instead of heeding the farmers, the BJP government using all sorts of means to sabotage the protest and spread canards about it.

“ The BJP government clearly has become the puppet in the hands of some corporate people and the law has been made only to help them and not the farmers. This is why, the government is making every effort to implement the law”, he said.

Another leader, Balu Jevoor said that the government is not ready to speak to the farmers to resolve the issue but hell-bent to destroy the protest.

The farmers too have become strong and dedication has only turned solid after the government making efforts to destroy the protest.

“ In no case, the farmers will allow the laws to be implemented, the government has no other option but to repeal the laws”, he asserted.

Akram Mashalkar, H. T. Mallikarjun, Sadananda Modi, Siddalinga Bagewadi, H. T. Bharatkumar, Dastagir Ukkali, Annarai Ilager, Sangappa Kapale and others were present.
