Vijayapura: Refuting the charges that the ruling BJP government has announced the increase in quota for SC/ST by eying at the coming assembly polls, District President R. S. Patil Kuchabal has accused the Congress of spreading canards.

Addressing mediapersons on Tuesday October 11 , he took jibe at the Congress which is wondering how the decision would be implemented when it requires amendments in the Constitution and approval of the President of India.

“The Congress is raising concern only out of frustration as it has no real concern. Since the BJP Government is power in both State and at the Centre, the Government will easily take approval for the implementation,” he said.

“The Government has taken a historic decision to increase the quota but since the Congress is feeling the heat of losing the polls, it has started making baseless allegations and creating confusion among the people. But let me make it amply clear that the Government will get all the hurdles cleared to that required for increasing the quota practically,” he said.

However, Kuchabal fails to answer whether the quota would come into effect in December end or at least before the State goes for next polls.

“We have taken a significant decision which has been welcomed by people of the SC/ST community. The Government will get all the hurdles cleared in the phased manner,” he said.

However, he did not give specific time on when the order will come into effect.

Kuchabal claimed that the Congress now is worried of losing their votes after the BJP Government announced to increase the quota.

“The BJP will come to power again in the State,” he said.

With regard to the coming City Corporation elections, Kuchabal claimed that since the party has great winning prospects, the number of aspirants has significantly increased.

“For 35 wards of the City, we have already received over 180 applications from the aspirants. This shows that people are confident of the party coming to power in City Corporation,” he said.

He claimed that the party will win at least 20 seats in the City Corporation elections. Kuchabal also claimed that because of the funds granted by the BJP Government for the development of the City, the people will be voting for the party.

To a question, he refuted the report of presence of factions in the party which is causing damage to the party’s unity.

“There are no factions and groupism in our party. We are all united and we will face the election with unity,” he said.
