Vijayapura: The District continues to receive mild tremors of earthquake as the people of the City experienced one more round of mild tremors on early morning of Saturday July 9.

The people felt the ground shaking and they also heard a loud sound. “I had just completed morning players when I felt like the earth was mildly shaking. I even heard some strange sound like something heavy is falling. Soon after that I received calls from my relative who confirmed that I was experiencing similar tremors,” said K. S. Almelkar, one of the residents of the Galagali Colony of the City.

The District has been experiencing such mild tremors since over a year. Though so far no damage has been recorded by the District Administration due to these tremors, however every incident is sending panic among the residents.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the City recorded an earthquake of the magnitude 4.4 on Richter scale at Kannu GP, some 2.3 km northwest from the city as epicentre at around 6.22 am.

In the message sent by Deputy Commissioner, Vijayamahantesh Danammanavar, it is stated that they received no information of any damage in the District. However, they were awaiting for more information from different parts of the District.

In the past, when similar quakes occurred, the officials visited different areas and said that they are not actually earthquakes but unusual activities that take place below the earth’s surface after heavy rains.
