Vijayapura: With the minimum temperature reaching below 8 degrees Celsius, the District has already started shivering due to the cold in the ongoing winter.
After facing torrential rains till a couple of months ago during the monsoon, now the people are preparing to encounter the cold waves in winter.
According to the officials, the minimum temperature is now fluctuating between 11 and 9 degrees in the last week and on Monday November 21 the officials recorded 7.6 degrees which are believed to be the lowest in the last five years.
The officials said that in the winter of 2010, the District had recorded a minimum temperature of just 6 degrees while in 2009 it was 6.5 degrees. Now, it has reached 7.6 degrees so far this year.
Since the cold waves would continue mainly during December, the temperature may plummet further, the officials said.
The District, which faces scorching heat during summers where the temperature goes up to 45 degrees, is now witnessing temperature dipping to below 8 degrees during winters.
The temperature is gradually dipping after the sunset and dips further as the night falls. P. S. Pattar, an expert at the Regional Agriculture Research Station said that the temperature is dipping substantially this year due to heavy rains.
The children, mainly those who have to go to school early in the morning, are facing a major problem as they have to fight the cold to go to school early in the morning.
The passengers who are travelling at night, or those who miss their bus and are forced to stay at the bus stand, are the ones who are going through tough times.
Meanwhile, agriculture experts say that the dipping temperature will not do any harm to general crops, however, it may have some adverse effects on the grape plantation.
