Vijayapura: Innumerable passengers who are visiting or passing through Vijayapura Railway Station will soon have an opportunity to purchase locally grown/made products at an affordable price.
The Indian Railway under One Station One Product has decided to promote some locally produced materials in the District in order to help the farmers and producers and also to increase local employment.
While different products have been identified for different districts based on their availability, the South Western Railway has identified some local products such as Lemon, Lemon pickles, Jowar Roti, Groundnut Chutney etc. for selling at the railway station.
The station would be setting up a makeshift stall where the sellers would be allowed to sell their products.
Under the scheme, the trader who wishes to sell the products, should first contact the station manager and pay Rs. 1000 to the Railway to use the stall for selling products. The allotment of the stall will be given only on first come first serve bases and only for fifteen days.
“After the end of fifteen days, the same trader can apply for permission again by paying the stipulated amount and avail the facility. However, as of now, the permission is given only for fifteen days”, an official said.
He said that though the department has selected lemon and pickle as local products, the sellers can select any other local products to sell by applying for the permission.
To a question, the official said that though they approached the Kolhar curd sellers, the curd which is popular for its taste and thickness, no seller was ready to accept the offer.
“They said that the nearest railway station is in Basavanabagewadi and not in Kolhar village. They said that since the cost of transportation is high for them, they are hesitant to use the scheme to sell the curd. However, we are still trying to convince them. Hopefully some sellers will agree at least on trial bases to check the economic feasibility,” the official said.
Further, he said that those interested in selling, can approach the Railway Station Manager of Vijaypura Railway Station.
