Vijayapura: The suspense over BJP finalising ticket to Nagathan Reserved constituency is apparently keeping the party workers on their toes and anxiety is only growing.

While the party has announced candidates for seven of the eight assembly constituencies of the District, it is still taking time to finalise the candidate for Nagatha SC Reserved constituency.

It was speculated that the party would choose Gopal Karjol, the son of Minister Govind Karjol as the candidate since he had contested election on BJP ticket in 2018 polls, but lost to JD (S) candidate Devanand Chavan.

Since he had given a tough fight, and the party too did not have a better choice, it was speculated in the BJP circle that Karjol would be the party’s choice.

But with the party taking time to announce the candidate, the party workers, mainly the supporters of Karjol, are anxious and eagerly waiting for the announcement.

Amid this, the name of MP Ramesh Jigajinagi suddenly started making rounds as a possible candidate from Nagathan.

Though months before the announcement of the model code of conduct, Jigajinagi had expressed desire to contest from Nagathan and wanted to join State politics.
However he was also aware that Gopal Karjol, was trying hard to get a ticket again from Nagathan.

Jigajinagi had said that he wished to contest from Nagathan, however he had also said that he would abide by the party’s decision and would work for the candidate announced by the High Command.

“Now, as everything seems to be falling in place and the name of Gopal Karjol was nearly finalised, the party is delaying in announcing the candidate. We have no idea what is happening and why the party is taking so much time,” said one of the prominent party functionaries of the BJP.

He said that the delay would not only create confusion among the party workers, but also would give limited time to candidate to campaign.

“Nagathan is the geographically widest constituency which is spread over 180 kilomwtres and covers at least three taluks.

Reaching the voters is difficult even if the ticket is announced a couple of months in advance.

In such a situation, the candidate will have a tough time to campaign mainly when the Congress and the JD(S) have already announced their candidates,” he said.
