Woman hacked to death due to family disputes in Belagavi

A long-standing family rivalry took a gruesome turn in Kalahal village, Ramdurg taluk, where a 45-year-old woman was mercilessly hacked. The victim, Shekhavva Madar, fell prey to an axe attack by Manjunath Madar, a fellow villager.

Tensions between the two families had persisted since 2018, when a violent confrontation forced Shekhavva’s family to relocate to Kagadal in Savadatti taluk. Despite shifting homes, she often returned to Kalahal to manage their ancestral property.

Engagement dispute sparks deadly rage

The latest conflict ignited when Manjunath’s sister got engaged to a youth from Bagalkot. However, Shekhavva’s son allegedly sent a message to the groom, claiming to be romantically involved with the bride-to-be. This revelation led to the engagement being called off, infuriating Manjunath.

Brutal murder in broad daylight

On the fateful day, Shekhavva visited Kalahal to collect ration supplies. Spotting her alone, Manjunath struck her fatally with an axe, delivering a devastating blow to her head.

Police crackdown

The Sureban police swiftly arrested Manjunath and initiated a thorough investigation into the murder, seeking justice for the slain woman.
