Bengaluru: Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa on Tuesday said that the State government has decided to grant occupancy rights to farmers who have been cultivating common lands (kumki/bane/betta/haadi/soppinabetta/jumma lands) under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme.
The minister, speaking to media said that an order was issued to regularise cultivation of ‘kumki’ lands in proportion to ‘patta’ land owned by farmers. He also informed that tahsildars had been instructed to hold weekly meetings to clear pending applications related to land issues before December end.
The farmers can now cultivate the Kumki land, the government owned land which is lying vacant. Kumki lands are those located adjacent to patta lands under cultivation.
Representatives of the Kisan Cell of the State Congress had earlier called on Thimmappa and urged him to regularise ‘kumki’ lands.
The minister also stated that he had instructed officials to look at cloud seeding for more rain in the coastal and Malnad areas.
