Bengaluru: The evening of Sunday, August 6 dazzled as Udi Udi fame Prajoth D’Sa and team presented a live musical extravaganza at St. Joseph’s Arts & Science College Auditorium here. The event “SAMBRAM-2017” which began at 4:30 PM was organised by Konkani Samudai Jayanagar who once again proved their ability to organise quality Konkani programmes in Bangalore.
The event also included a socio-comedy drama titled “Paying Guest” by Arun Raj Rodrigues.
The evening began with a brief stage programme felicitating the frontrunners of the event Prajoth and Arun Raj. Dr. Seema Fernandes (Vice Chairman, Minority Department, KPCC) was felicitated during the event for her selfless service to the society. During her speech, Dr. Seema stressed on the facilities available to minorities and loans applicable for women entrepreneurs. Chairman of FKCA Edward Anand D’Souza presided over the function. Konkani writer Steevan Quadros Permude released his book “Rangannacha Sopnathle Dees” during this occasion.
Thereafter, President of Konkani Samudai Jayanagar, Anitha Gomes welcomed the gathering while Noel Fernandes, Secretary proposed a vote of thanks.
The musical show kickstarted with the super hit title track from Prajoth’s maiden album Udi Udi performed by Prajoth himself. Then came performances par excellence by an array of mellifluous singers Ashwin D’Costa, Royston Pinto, Munita Veigas, Jaison Sequeira and Joshal D’Souza who all rendered songs from the album Udi Udi.
Known for his creative ideas, Prajoth had last month initiated a selfie singing contest on Facebook promising the winners a chance to perform along with him during the event. As promised, winners of the contest Lavita Rodrigues, Marvel D’Souza and 11-year-old Sion Martis stole the show with their debut yet powerful performances.
The show was backed by backing vocalists Waylon, Manfred, Linece, Johnson, Sayani, Meryl and Teena.
An elite group of musicians had Sandeep Roche on the Keyboards, Ronald Coates on Lead Guitar, Joel Milan Baptist on Drums, Clement Sequeira on Rhythm Guitar and Terence D’Souza on Bass.
The show was anchored by none other than the singing trio Royston-Ashwin-Prajoth themselves who with their wit and humour ably anchored the show and engaged the audience throughout.
The musical evening came to an end with an unplugged arrangement of a multilingual bunch of songs in Hindi, Kannada and Konkani by Royston, Ashwin and Prajoth. The crowd was so mesmerised that they sang along the entire session.
At the end, the comedy drama Paying Guest by Kalakul Reportery was enacted. Along with Arun Raj’s punchy dialogues and humour, the drama also imbibed a strong social and ethical message on the plight of those trying to get paying guest accommodation in big cities.
Konkani Samudai is a 12-year-old association, with a main aim of promoting language and culture. Besides helping the needy, it has been helping poor students with scholarships.
