The Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) has identified 10 major waterlogging hotspots across its jurisdiction and directed officials to closely monitor these areas during the ongoing monsoon season.
BSCC Commissioner K.N. Ramesh reviewed monsoon preparedness with civic officials and traffic police personnel, emphasising the need for road safety measures and swift action to prevent inconvenience to commuters.
Focus on flood-prone junctions
The corporation has listed several locations that regularly experience flooding and traffic congestion during heavy rain. These include Hulimavu Lake Junction, Sagar Junction to Sagar Hospital Road, HSR Layout 14th Main Road, Sony World Junction, Outer Ring Road, HSR Layout 5th Main Road, Shri Rangam Junction, Bellandur-Iblur Junction, Wipro Junction on Sarjapur Road, Roopena Agrahara and Madiwala Ayyappa Junction.
Officials have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and respond quickly to waterlogging complaints in these areas.
Measures to ease traffic congestion
To tackle traffic disruptions caused by illegal parking during the rainy season, BSCC has deployed six towing vehicles.
Three towing vehicles will operate in Jayanagar, while the remaining three will cover BTM Layout, Bommanahalli and Bellandur. Authorities have also designated Mallasandra Ground and AGS Layout Ground for parking vehicles removed from congested roads.
NICE Junction improvement planned
The commissioner also highlighted persistent traffic bottlenecks at NICE Junction on Bannerghatta Main Road and directed officials to develop a loop system similar to the one implemented at the Mysore Road NICE Junction.
The move is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at one of south Bengaluru’s busiest intersections.
Hulimavu Lake works to be accelerated
Separately, officials from the Forest, Ecology and Climate Change Division of the Greater Bengaluru Authority reviewed ongoing development works at Hulimavu Lake.
Residents complained about delays in the project and the continued inflow of sewage into the lake. Authorities have directed BWSSB officials to expedite construction of the sewage treatment plant and immediately install fencing around the lake to prevent encroachment and improve safety.
With monsoon rains intensifying, civic agencies are aiming to minimise flooding, improve road safety and ensure smoother movement across Bengaluru South.
