Bengaluru: An 11-year-old girl was killed on the spot when a biker from Bengaluru heading towards Nandi Hills ran over her on the outskirts of Devanahalli on Sunday.
The police have identified the victim as Anju, a resident of Avathi village, who was returning home after fetching drinking water from a tap, when the accident took place. She sustained severe head injuries.
The police identified the biker as Nikesh, a music teacher.
Agitated villagers caught Nikesh, tied him to a pole and thrashed him, before handing him over to the police. Traffic movement on the national highway was disrupted for over an hour, as villagers blocked vehicular movement in protest against the girl’s death.
The police arrested Nikesh and booked him on the charge of death due to negligence.
Residents of villages on the outskirts of the city have been protesting against inadequate measures taken by the police to tackle the problem of rash driving and speeding.
