Bengaluru: The State government has constituted a committee under the leadership of additional chief secretary to the urban development department to look into the issue of unauthorised layouts around Bengaluru, according to Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K J George.

Replying a query from JD(S) member K Gopalaiah on the issue of unauthorised layouts around Bengaluru, Minister George said there are 127 illegal layouts in Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) limits around the city. “The state government will take suitable action against those illegal layouts after the committee, led by the additional chief secretary to the urban development department, submitted its report. The committee has also been asked to prepare guidelines to control the illegal layouts around Bengaluru,’’ the minister said.

He said the committee has already met last month to discuss the issue. “The committee has officials from various departments. It has been collecting information from various departments. The government will initiate action based on the report submitted by the committee,’’ he said.

He said Thippagondanahalli reservoir water was polluted due to the formation of illegal layouts and industrial units around the reservoir. “There is 36 ft of water in Thippagondanahalli reservoir. I have directed BDA Commissioner to pump the water from the reservoir to other place and take measures to prevent polluted water flowing into the reservoir,’’ he said.

Akrama-Sakrama

Minister George said Akrama Sakrama scheme got approved by the legislature twice and it also got Governor’s consent and got published in the gazette but Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development has filed a writ in the High Court against it. “The government will decide the future course of action only after High Court judgment on the issue,’’ the minister said.

Earlier, JD(S) member K Gopalaiah said polluted water is flowing into Thippagondanahalli reservoir due to the illegal layouts and industrial units around the reservoir. “There is a possibility of stagnant water in Thippagondanahalli reservoir become poisonous if the government fails to take suitable measures. The implementation of Akrama Sakrama scheme was delayed for a quite long time. I want the government to implement it as early as possible,’’ Gopalaiah said.
