Bengaluru: The state government has selected 150 villages for the ambitious ‘Chief Minister’s Model Village’ programme. Under this programme, the hamlets and villages with predominant SC/ST population would be developed, according to Minister for Social Welfare H Anjaneya.

Speaking with media persons here, Minister Anjaneya said that there are about 2000 villages in the state with predominant SC/ST population. “One hundred villages with predominant SC population and 50 villages with predominant ST population would get Rs 1 crore each under the programme this year. Already Rs 150 crore has been granted for the programme this year,’’ Minister Anjaneya said.

These villages would be provided best of civic amenities like tapped water, steady power supply, underground sewage, education and health infrastructure. “Karnataka is also implementing Pradhan Mantri Adarsha Gram Yojana with vigour. Two hundred 200 villages have been selected this year for the programme under which each village would get Rs 40 lakh grant for comprehensive development. The programme is being implemented with 50 per cent funding from the union government,’’ the minister said.

New Year in Tribal Hamlet

Continuing his practice of ushering-in New Year in tribal hamlets, Anjaneya is set to spend the December 31 night this year at Mururu hamlet in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district. The hamlet is inhabited by Koraga tribals.

The hamlet has just 10 families with a total population of about 50. “I will usher-in New Year there. I will live and interact with them to understand their hardship and try to redress their grievances,” Anjaneya said.
