Bengaluru: As many as 177 inmates of the Ramnagar District Jail have been moved to Parapanna Agrahara Central Prison to accommodate all of the accused in the Padarayanapura violence case.
As many as 10 BMTC buses and four KSRP vans were pressed into action on Tuesday to ferry the inmates.
As per sources, social distancing norms were strictly followed by the police department and only 18 inmates were taken in one bus, with adequate police personnel for security.
Zero traffic was created on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
Sources added that Ramnagar SP Anup Shetty was irked to find out that none of the inmates was handcuffed while they were being transferred.
By the time the SP noticed the same, one bus had already left. It is said that the bus was asked to return and all the inmates were ferried to Parappana Agrahar after being handcuffed.
It may be recalled that 50 persons were arrested after violence broke out in the Padarayanapura area, on Sunday evening. Police and frontline health workers had come to the area to take a few persons to quarantine as they were identified as secondary contacts of some COVID-19 patients.
The locals created a ruckus and attacked the police and the health workers. The 59 accused in the case will be housed in at the Ramnagar District Jail.
