Bengaluru:
A 19-year-old BBA student, Sana Parvin, tragically took her life at her rented accommodation in Kadusonnappanahalli, Bengaluru, on Friday. Her father, Abdul Nazeer, a civil contractor from Kodagu district, has lodged a police complaint, alleging that a former senior student, identified as Reefas from Kerala, had been harassing Sana for over a year.
The alleged harassment reportedly included persistent phone calls, messages, mental abuse, and blackmail. College authorities had previously warned the accused around ten months ago, but the harassment allegedly continued, escalating the distress for the young student.
The case has drawn significant attention to student safety and the measures institutions take to prevent harassment. Police are investigating the matter under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with abetment of suicide, while the accused remains at large.
Conclusion
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for colleges and universities to strengthen mechanisms to address harassment, safeguard students, and ensure their emotional and mental well-being.
