Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has added 29 more taluks to the drought-hit list through a notification, taking the total number of taluks covered under the drought assessment to a higher level across the state.

Among the newly declared drought-affected areas are Belthangady, Bantwal and Ullal in Dakshina Kannada district, while Udupi and Byndoor in Udupi district have been classified as ‘Moderate’ drought-affected taluks.

Dakshina Kannada taluks added to list

The government notification includes Belthangady, Bantwal and Ullal in Dakshina Kannada among the areas facing drought conditions.

The declaration is significant for the coastal district, where variations in rainfall and water availability can affect agriculture and other rural activities.

Udupi and Byndoor classified as moderate

In neighbouring Udupi district, Udupi and Byndoor taluks have been declared ‘Moderate’ under the government’s drought classification.
