32 nurses rescued from traffickers in KIAL

Bengaluru: As many as 32 nurses, mostly from Kerala who studied in various nursing colleges in Mangaluru, were rescued at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL), Bengaluru. All of them were on their way to Armenia to learn the German language.

The Bengaluru North division police registered a suspected human trafficking case against them.

According to police, Tomy Tom, who runs an educational consultancy in Mangaluru has been detained in connection with the case. “He was taking all of them to Armenia. Immigration officers were suspicious of the information provided by the nurses as they said they are visiting Armenia to learn the German language. When they investigated, they found that Tom had assured to get them a job abroad if they could speakGerman,” the police added.

“Tom had collected Rs 30,000 as airfare and $ 1,200 as the German language course fee. We are investigating the case,” police informed.
