Bengaluru: According to a show-cause notice issued by the BBMP, 7 hospitals have been given 24 hours to be compliant with the policy that states that 50 per cent of beds are to be reserved for Covid-19 patients. BBMP commissioner, Manjunath Prasad has issued orders for suspension of their licence according to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act.

These hospitals have been directed to show cause within the next 24 hours as to why the KPME registration licenses should not be cancelled,” Manjunath Prasad added.

The seven hospitals in the district that have come under the radar are Artyem Hospital, Rangadore Memorial Hospital, Sanjeevini Hospital, Dr GVG Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Srinivas Hospital, Medstar Hospital and Nandana Healthcare Services India Ltd.

These hospitals failed to reserve 50 per cent of beds in common rooms, high dependency unit (HDU), intensive care unit (ICU), and ventilator facilities. The issue came to the limelight during a routine inspection conducted by the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust; which is responsible for reimbursing hospitals for expenses incurred on behalf of the government. The inspection also found out that beds were being reserved for private patients while the policy issued in June was being enforced to help people from low-income backgrounds.

In addition to compliance with the requirements, if no proper explanation is received within 24 hours, BBMP will shut down the OPD in the first stage. This will be followed by the transfer of patients to alternate hospitals and shutting down of these hospitals.
