Bengaluru: Tension prevailed in Chintamani town when a 70-year-old Narayanappa collapsed on Cholur Circle after he was slapped by police sub-inspector Narasimhamurthy on Thursday morning.
Agitated locals staged a protest against the high-handedness of the police. Additional police personnel were quickly sent to the spot to escort Narasimhamurthy and the constables back to the station and quell the protests. People were shouting slogans at them and they surrounded the police vans demanding that senior officers take immediate action against them.
Karthik Reddy, Superintendent of Police, Chickballapur district, said that he had ordered an inquiry into the incident. “I have asked the Deputy Superintendent of Police to conduct a detailed probe and submit a report, based on which action will be taken.”
According to sources, Narayanappa has been admitted to the government hospital and is being treated for multiple injuries, including broken ribs. His family has filed a police complaint.
