Bengaluru: A recent survey carried out by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) revealed that a total of 70,113 children in the age group of seven to 15 years are out of school across the state. The district-wise break up of the same is yet to be computed.
According to the preliminary data, compared to the girl students, more number of boy students are out of school. While 39,059 boy children are out of reach of education, 31,054 girls are out of schools. “Highest out of school children have been reported from Bengaluru area because of the migration-related issues,” informed an officer privy to the survey.
As many as 31,054 children informed that they are out of school for various reasons including reaching menstruation age. Other important reasons found by the department for the out of school children problem include migration (11, 813), domestic work (4,284), health issues (1,263), negligence of girl child (1,540), and others (9,550).
An officer from the DPI informed that remedial measures will be taken up to ensure that all these children join the mainstream education again. “The final data will be released soon,” he said.
