Bengaluru: A total of 85 wild elephants have been traced inside the Bannerghatta National Park. The forest department authorities fear that some of these elephants may enter the nearby paddy and banana fields resulting in wildlife-human conflict.

According to the forest department authorities, among these 85 wild elephants, 32 belongs to the national park while the rest of the elephants have migrated from the Tamil Nadu forest. These elephants are in groups and are wandering around the park area.

“A few lonely tuskers have entered the forest in search of female elephants. There are 146 water ponds constructed inside the park area to ensure that wild animals do not face any drinking water problem,” informed authorities.

“For the first time, we are seeing such a number of wild elephants inside the forest area. Generally, around 50 -55 wild elephants are traced,” informed an officer from the national park area.
