A six-member delegation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) landed in Bengaluru on Monday to examine three proposed sites for the city’s upcoming second international airport. These sites have been shortlisted by the Karnataka state government.
The AAI team includes officials Vikram Singh, K Srinivasa Rao (from HAL), Manuj Bhardwaj, Sachchida Nand Pandey, Santosh Kumar Bharti, and Amaan Chhipa. They were given a detailed presentation by Khushboo Goel Chowdhary, Managing Director of the Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC).
Industries and Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil clarified that the AAI’s role is limited to assessing the technical feasibility of the sites. “Post this, a comprehensive feasibility and viability report will be required,” he stated.
The AAI officials are scheduled to inspect two locations on Kanakapura Road and one on the Kunigal-Nelamangala Road on Tuesday. Their visit will conclude with a meeting with Minister Patil on Wednesday.
Pollution Impact of Industries Under Scrutiny
In a parallel development, Minister Patil has instructed officials to initiate a detailed study on the environmental effects of 215 industrial zones across Karnataka. This study will likely be undertaken by premier institutions like IISc or IIT.
Highlighting the long-term impact of unchecked industrial growth, Patil stressed the need to protect natural resources. Expert teams will be deployed to assess pollution levels and suggest remedial actions for non-compliant industries.
