Bengaluru: A 25-year-old youth injured in an accident was kept waiting for medical assistance for more than 12 hours by different hospitals on Saturday, March 19.
The reason was the payment of expenses, as he was bought by a police constable. The hospitals were reluctant to admit the victim because no one was accompanying the injured man, nor details of his close ones were available.
Kishore (25), a driver by profession met with an accident when returning home at around midnight on Saturday near Arehalli on Hoskote Road. He suffered injuries to his head and limbs. He was taken to several hospitals including Vaidehi Hospital and Victoria, before being finally getting admitted in NIMHANS with police intervention.
Head constable of Anagondanahalli station, Muhammed Khaleem Ulla had admitted Kishore to Vaidehi Hospital at around 2 am on Sunday. The treatment did not begin till 9 am. When questioned, the hospital authorities answered that the patient was an unaccompanied stranger and the management would question as to who would bear the expenses.
Seeing television news on Sunday evening, Kishore’s sister who lives in Bagalur alerted Kishore’s father Raju, who went to NIMHANS and began to take care of his son.
This raises question over ‘Harish Scheme’ announced just two weeks back by the state government under which hospitalization expenses of accident victims would be reimbursed.
