Bengaluru: A letter from President of IPS Officers’ Association and Assistant Director General of Police (ADGP) R P Sharma seems to have shaken the government.

In his letter to the state government, Sharma has said, “With increasing political intervention, there is a feeling that everything is not ok with police system and it is difficult to work with dignity.” The letter has passed shockwaves among the political circles and caused an embarrassment to the government.

The letter which was written to the Chief Secretary K. Rathnaprabha, requests the government to convey a meeting of IPS officers to bring the dignity of police back.

Soon after the development, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has discussed the matter with Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Subhashchandra and asked them to submit an overall report pertaining to the issue before Monday noon, said the sources.

The government has considered the letter very seriously and it may also recommend taking strict action against Sharma.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s office clarified that ADGP Sharma has misused the letterhead of the IPS Officers’ Association, and created confusion. Association Secretary Pranav Mohanty who is in New Delhi clarified that Sharma has not discussed any such issues with the association members.

In his letter to the state government, ADGP R P Sharma has mentioned many incidents as examples. He claimed that the blatant intervention in the police investigation and punishing the police have marred their dignity and anti-social elements don’t fear the police. In Bengaluru six police commissioners have been changed in 4.5 years.

He mentioned incidents like the brutal attack on the Lokayukta, attack on IAS officer Rashmi in Mysuru, Mysuru DC Shikha who had to wait for hours to file an FIR in spite of serious attacks on her rights, political intervention in the UB City incident and a politician who was about to burn a government office using petrol without fear etc.
