Bengaluru: In a growing trend of Indian-origin technology leaders returning home while retaining global roles, Adobe Director of Engineering Gowri Shankar Ravindran has relocated to Bengaluru after spending a decade in California’s Bay Area.
The senior executive announced the move in a heartfelt LinkedIn post, describing it as a major milestone for his family and career. He said the decision was primarily driven by the desire to be closer to family, while continuing to contribute to Adobe’s global operations from India.
A family-first decision
Ravindran reflected on his 10 years in the United States as both professionally and personally rewarding. During his time in the Bay Area, he worked alongside some of the technology industry’s brightest minds, built lasting friendships, and advanced his career.
Sharing the news, he wrote, “After a wonderful decade in the Bay Area, our family has made the move to Bangalore, India to be closer to family.”
Excited about a new beginning
Having spent two weeks settling into life in Bengaluru, Ravindran said the family is embracing the new chapter with excitement while also missing the close-knit community they left behind in California.
He also thanked Adobe for ensuring a smooth cross-continental transition, noting that the company’s support made relocating across continents significantly easier.
Continuing global responsibilities from India
Despite returning to India, Ravindran’s professional responsibilities remain unchanged. He will continue working on complex engineering challenges for Adobe’s leadership team from Bengaluru, highlighting how flexible work models now allow senior executives to lead global teams without relocating permanently to the United States.
His move reflects a broader shift among Indian-origin technology professionals who are increasingly choosing to return home while maintaining international careers. Improved remote work practices, strong technology ecosystems, and the opportunity to stay close to family are making India an attractive base for global technology leaders.
