Bengaluru: The state government’s decision to cancel the Hampi Utsav celebration has not gone down well with the people from Ballari.
Angry people from across the district have started agitation.
In Meerakornalli village of the Huvina Hadagali taluk, residents started door-to-door money collection and later submitted the amount collected to the DC’s office. They informed the officers at the DC’s office that they have begged and collected the amount just to make sure that the state government does not cancel the mega event.
In Koppala, which borders Hampi, several oragnisations and the pontiffs have decided to take up a week-long money collection drive across the district to fund the Hampi Utsav celebrations.
“Hampi utsav was started when late MP Prakash was the DCM. If the state government has money to celebrate Dasara why not Hampi Utsav,” is the common question raised by the general public.
Meanwhile, newly elected Ballari MP VS Ugrappa justified the government’s decision. “Hampi Utsav was canceled in the year 2013 also. Where were BJP leaders at that time,” he questioned.
