Air India is set to establish a cutting-edge Basic Maintenance Training Organisation (BMTO) at Bengaluru Airport City, slated to commence operations by mid-2026. This facility will offer an integrated Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) programme designed to develop a skilled workforce for the aviation sector.
Spanning 86,000 square feet, the BMTO campus will feature advanced classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and experienced trainers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has already approved the initiative. Air India has partnered with Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL), a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited, to create a custom-built facility tailored for the AME programme.
The training organization will be located near Air India’s upcoming 12-bay Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, set to open in early 2026. The close proximity to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) ensures that AME cadets will gain valuable, hands-on experience in a real-world environment.
Sunil Bhaskaran, Director of Aviation Academy, Air India, emphasized the initiative’s significance: “The BMTO will create a steady pipeline of skilled engineers trained to Air India’s high standards. The facility’s location and integrated training approach will offer unparalleled practical exposure for cadets.”
This ambitious project reflects Air India’s commitment to bolstering India’s aviation ecosystem and nurturing talent for the growing demands of the industry.
