Air Vice Marshal R Guruhari assumed duties as the Commandant of the Software Development Institute (SDI), Air Force Bengaluru, on January 1. With over three decades of distinguished service, he brings extensive experience from key command and staff roles.

His career highlights include serving as Chief Engineering Officer at two leading forward fighter air bases and spearheading operational initiatives as Director Ops (IW) and Director PO-1(L). While heading the Air Force Project Management Team at LRDE, DRDO Bengaluru, he significantly advanced critical radar projects for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Previously, as Air Officer Commanding of the Central Servicing Development Organisation (CSDO), he contributed to shaping IAF’s maintenance strategies. An alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the Higher Defense Management Course at CDM Secunderabad, he possesses deep strategic insights.

Prior to this role, he served as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Weapons) at Air Headquarters, further cementing his expertise in operational readiness and systems integration. His appointment as SDI Commandant underscores the IAF’s focus on technological evolution and operational excellence.
