The First Lady of the UK, Akshata Murty, is in Bengaluru spending time with her family. At a well-known ice cream shop in the city, she was pictured with her father and NR Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys. Adarsh Hegde posted a photo of the same thing on X.

Murty was having ice cream with Narayana Murthy at the famous Corner House in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar neighborhood. The father and daughter held ice cream cups as they posed for a picture while wearing casual attire.

On February 10, however, the entire family attended the book launch of “An Uncommon Love: The Early Life of Sudha and Narayana Murthy,” written by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Son Rohan Murty was there at the launch with Akshata and her daughters Anoushka and Krishna, while Narayan Murthy was speaking alongside his wife and philanthropist Sudha Murty.

At the function, which was held at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Murthy discussed how the couple initially got together. They got together in the early 1970s. As a voracious reader, Sudha was especially curious to learn that her friend’s roommate had a sizable library.

“When I knocked on the door, a college student opened it: petite, bespectacled, very serious, and very young. I wondered who he was?” Sudha told the audience. “I thought he’s so small in structure and reading so much.”

That day, Narayana Murthy asked Sudha Kulkarni out for dinner at a nearby restaurant and the rest is history.

Meanwhile, Divakaruni’s book explores Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty’s relationship before they decided to get married. In 1977, when Murthy was struggling to keep his first venture, Softronics, afloat, he used to travel from Pune to Mumbai every few days for precious minutes of computer time. At the time, he had also been ‘seeing’ Sudha for about three years.

The couple dated for four years before getting married in 1978.
