Bengaluru: Prakash K. Rathod, MLC, and Member of AICC, urged the BCCI and KSCA to cancel the IPL event and the Government of Karnataka to ban all sporting activity till the situation of Covid crisis improves.

In the press release here on Tuesday, April 27 he stated that “the Second wave of Covid Virus has been increasing in India at a tremendous pace. The World has been looking at India with shock and awe, many countries have come forward to supply oxygen and vaccines.  Many players have pulled out of the IPL amid growing anxiety over mounting covid cases in the country, three Australian Players namely, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa, and Kane Richardson have packed their bags and have headed towards their country, our own ace off-spinner R Ashwin has also pulled out of the IPL event.

“Is it necessary to continue playing IPL games when the country is witnessing the highest number of covid cases in the entire world? Have we become so inhumane to get entertained by the spectacle of an IPL event? Has BCCI rejected the call for scrapping IPL for Financial consideration?”, he questioned.

Expressing dissatisfaction over KSCA he said that KSCA has been adamant to host the IPL games in Bengaluru. Has KSCA forgotten that Bangalore is number one in covid cases in India? Is it not the time to be helpful to the people of Bangalore? Cannot KSCA’S Chinnaswamy Stadium be converted into a huge covid hospital? , he asked.

He informed that seven members of the India Women’s Hockey Team camped at the Sports Authority Of India have tested positive, the seven players are Rani Rampal, Savita Punia, Sharmila Devi, Rajani, Navjot Kaur, and Sushila, in addition, video analyst Amrut Prakash and scientific advisor have also tested positive.

He urged that the government of Karnataka should ban all training and sporting activity till the spurge of covid cases in the second wave comes under control.
