Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said Ahmedabad must develop into a major service sector hub comparable to cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, highlighting the need for balanced urban and economic growth.

Addressing a public gathering in Ahmedabad, Shah stressed the importance of strengthening the city’s service sector ecosystem and creating opportunities in information technology, finance, innovation and business services.

He noted that cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad have emerged as major economic and technology centres due to rapid expansion in the service industry, innovation-driven infrastructure and skilled workforce development. Shah said Ahmedabad too has the potential to become a globally recognised urban and economic destination.

The Union Minister underlined the importance of modern infrastructure, investment-friendly policies and employment generation to boost long-term development. He also emphasised the role of urban planning and sustainable growth in shaping the future of Indian cities.

Shah stated that India’s economic progress depends on the growth of multiple strong urban centres across the country rather than concentrating development in only a few metropolitan cities.

His remarks come at a time when several Indian cities are competing to attract investments in technology, startups, finance and digital services.

The statement has also renewed discussion around Bengaluru’s continued position as India’s leading technology and service sector hub, often referred to as the country’s Silicon Valley
