What began as a harmless prank between two friends ended in tragedy after a housekeeping worker allegedly stabbed his housemate to death during an argument over a hidden mobile phone in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area.
The victim, identified as Parashuram Mangalagatti, died after suffering a stab injury to the abdomen on May 11. Police have arrested the accused, Ramu Basappa Pattad, who was reportedly a close friend and roommate of the deceased.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded after Parashuram allegedly hid Ramu’s mobile phone as part of a prank. The joke reportedly triggered a heated argument between the two men inside their rented accommodation.
During the confrontation, Ramu allegedly attacked Parashuram with a knife. Police said the accused believed he had caused only a minor injury and left the house soon after the incident.
However, when Ramu returned to the rented room on May 14 expecting to find his friend alive, he reportedly realised the seriousness of the situation. Authorities later arrested him in connection with the case.
The shocking incident has drawn attention to how sudden anger and impulsive actions can turn minor disagreements into fatal outcomes.
Police have registered a murder case and are continuing further investigation into the matter
