Amitabh Bachchan should quit as Gujarat tourism ambassador: Yaskhi

Bengaluru: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Madhu Goud Yaskhi on Thursday, April 19, said Amitabh Bachchan should quit as Gujarat tourism brand ambassador in the wake of rape case in Surat.

“Amitabh Bachchan should resign as the brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism. What happened in Surat is a shameful and disgusting incident,” Yaskhi told reporters at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office while reacting to Amitabh Bachchan’s statement of feeling disgusted even to talk about the recent rapes that have shaken and outraged the nation.

The actor was speaking at a promotional event for his upcoming film “102 Not Out”, in which he stars alongside Rishi Kapoor in Mumbai.

The AICC secretary said the people have to protect girls from the BJP people. “I think the slogan – Beti Bachao-Beti Padao – has to be changed as Beti Bachao BJP logon se,” he said.

Commenting on the blame game of BJP leaders on the alleged road accident involving Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde, he said that lies, deceit and blame game are the only way for BJP leaders who have no morality.

“Ananth Kumar Hegde was forced to cancel his press conference as it was found in the investigation that the truck which crashed into his escort vehicle was owned by the brother of a BJP office bearer. It clearly shows their desperation of making an issue out of nothing,” he said.

Lampooning on Karnataka BJP leaders, he said the BJP national president has not allowing the BJP state leaders to lead the election campaign since he has no faith in them.

“Is there no leader big enough in Karnataka to fight for them? Why do they have no confidence in their own Chief Ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa? Why are they outsourcing leaders from other states to speak for them? Modi government has repeatedly nominated and elected non-Kannadigas as Rajya Sabha representatives from Karnataka, the latest being Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Aren’t there any people from Karnataka for BJP to choose from?” he asked.

Coming down heavily on BJP president Amit Shah for making false statements on financial assistance to Karnataka from the Central Government, he said the time has come to expose Shah’s lies.

“In April 2017, Karnataka was granted a mere Rs 1435.95 crore even though the state suffered from the worst drought in 45 years. BJP ruled states received a much higher amount in disaster relief with Maharashtra being allocated Rs 8195 crore, Gujarat Rs 3894 crore and Rajasthan Rs 2153 crore. Why this step-motherly treatment to the drought-affected Karnataka?” he questioned.

He also said that the Congress party is certain to win more than 132 seats in the Assembly elections scheduled for May 12.

“Our opening batsmen – Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah – are batting well. They are hitting sixers. If the trend continues, we are sure to win more than 132 seats in the Assembly elections and are certain to retain power in Karnataka,” he said.
