Tensions between auto drivers and bike taxi riders in Bengaluru flared up again near Upparapete Outpost Police Station when a bike taxi rider became the target of verbal abuse and threats.
The aggressor, an auto driver with the registration number KA02AG0879, reportedly attempted to snatch the rider’s phone and warned that he would summon fellow auto drivers for a physical assault. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the escalating hostility towards bike taxis in the city.
Following the complaint, Bengaluru City Police acknowledged the issue and forwarded it to @DCPWestBCP and @upparpetpsbcp for further action. However, the repeated occurrence of such altercations has led to widespread debate on social media.
Many users urged authorities to provide clear legal guidelines regarding bike taxis, as auto drivers claim they are illegal while bike taxi operators insist otherwise. Others questioned the effectiveness of police action, noting that despite arrests, such incidents continue to occur.
With aggression among auto drivers on the rise, citizens are calling for stricter measures to curb road rage and improve Bengaluru’s commuting culture.
