Bengaluru: “Religious conversion has become an industry despite the fact that the courts have stated that conversion is not a fundamental right,” said former Education Minister Suresh Kumar.
Suresh remarked, “There is a major difference between Embracing another Religion and getting converted,” quoting Arun Shourie’s book “Harvesting our Souls” about how India is being utilised for conversion. There’s a big difference between accepting and following another religion’s doctrine of another religion and transitioning to another religion by succumbing to pressure and enticement,” he added.
He has also slammed comments made by Bangalore Archbishop Rev Dr. Peter Machado during protests in Bengaluru on Thursday December 23, claiming that the bill would have an impact on Christians’ private lives. “What does the archbishop mean when he says that “poor children will be denied a quality education”? Conversion under the pretext of curing diseases has gained everyone’s attention. Is this bill also banning conversion under the pretext of education? he asked.
“It is natural for those involved in the conversion racket to be opposed to the legislation. Those who are devoted followers of their own religions, on the other hand, will not be affected by this bill. This bill poses no threat to anyone’s personal life,” he added.
