Bengaluru: Four final semester students of the APS College of the city designed a solar-powered tricycle that works on both solar power and electricity. According to the student researchers, this will help the physically challenged move on their own without any labour and engage in day-to-day activities.
They also said that this new tricycle is light in weight and that petrol and diesel are not required to power the machine.
“Electronic control modules have been used in this tricycle. Several electronic equipments have been used to develop this tricycle including a capacitor, voltage regulator etc.,” informed B S Indresh Kumar, R Sunil and Santosh Gowda Patil, who are members of this project team.
“Two solar panels have been installed on the top of this tricycle. They are of 50 watts capacity. Batteries are also installed, which can be recharged through solar power. If solar power is not available, the tricycle can be operated using electricity,” they informed.
“On battery, the tricycle can go up to 50 kilometres. The vehicle can get recharged in four to five hours,” they added.
