Bengaluru: Karnataka State Archives department has digitised 60 lakh pages of the historical content out of which 5 lakh pages are available online, said Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree, inaugurating the E-office at the department.
State Archives is the repository of lakhs of printed documents of historical value which are of immense significance for the scholars, historians, academicians, students and public, said Umashree and added that all details could be accessed online http://archives.kannadasiri.co.in.
The archives department stands first to go paperless in the precincts of state’s power centres Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha.
“The state government has resorted to paperless office in all its departments for A,B and C category official documentation. A handbook of 102 pages is available for reference. Around 60,000 pages of script analysis in all languages including Kannada has been taken up. Historical Records relevant to state have been collected from England totalling to 20000 pages. Valuable information has been provided in 72 editions to researchers in the field,” Minister Umashree explained.
The Government will save enormous money through this move and in future record rooms will not be required to store information, Minister stated.
The ministry has given nod to establish a regional office at Kalburgi to facilitate people from Hyderabad- Karnataka (H-K) region.
