Bengaluru: The state government has threatened to cut the ASHA workers’ wages for the days that they have been striking. Undeterred, the workers say that they intend to continue their protest indefinitely.

It can be noted that the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) have been on state-wide indefinite strike for the past four days. They have been demanding the government to pay their wages that have been pending for the past 15 months.

The ASHA workers were warned about the pay cuts but Karnataka Director of Health and Family Welfare Shivraj Sajan Shetty through a circular.

The ASHA workers, however, have assured that they would continue to carry out their strike till they get a clear answer on when their dues will be cleared by the government.

The state health workers have also been criticising health minister B Sreeramulu for pursuing the Deputy Chief Minister’s post while thousands of workers are demanding their dues.

An ASHA worker questioned what kind of DCM would Sreeramulu make if he “can’t even complete his role as a health minister?” “He met the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to lobby for the DCM position, while his meetings with us have been unsatisfactory. He should meet us and give a final answer of when our dues will be cleared,” she added.
